I ended up taking a random road trip to Ashland, Va, home of Randolph – Macon College, because I was driving due to the rainy start to the day. I ended up at Ashland Coffee and Tea (100 North Railroad Ave, 37.758922, -77.481398), a bit out of my way, but it is always been touted as one of the better live music venues in the area, and it is only about 25 miles from Richmond.
A very locally owned shop, I had an iced coffee, which here meant pouring coffee over coffee ice cubes. A bit strong for my tender stomach.
The town of Ashland a couple blocks either up and down the tracks from the train station is very quaint.
The Cross Brothers grocery store just across the street appeared to be an antique store, although they did in fact sell groceries.
