The Boban & Marko Marković Orchestra were one of the hits of the Richmond Folk Festival for me, in the drizzle on Saturday, October 11, 2014. They are one of the leading Serbian brass bands and bring high energy to their performance. The instrumentation comprised three percussionists (a snare, tabla? and small drum kit), an accordion, a tuba, alto horns (I think), a clarinet and a lead trumpet.
The performed an ever-accelerating version of “Hava Nagila” and original and traditional music. One of the highlights of the performance was Marko calling the break dancers from off stage left onto the stage and rapping along with the dancers, all in the middle of one of their songs. It was very energizing trying to keep up with the rhythms and tempos.
