Jack Mackeral’s, Kure Beach

After a scenic day’s drive across up US 17 through South and North Carolina we made it to our beachside motel,  Admirals Quarters.

We had a great dinner a couple of paces away at Jack Mackerals in Kure Beach. I had a salmon salad which was delicious. And my friend had a grilled chicken breast with steamed veggies and fried plantains. Both dinners were quite yummy.

Plus the bartender was starting a worm business, 5th element farms, by collecting food scraps from commercial kitchens in the Carolina Beach area. Initially this was a personal venture during the global financial crisis but he is now trying to develop a business producing worm castings and worm tea for fertilizer.
