Katz’s Deli

I am just going to have give up on pastrami on rye. I went to Katz’s Delicatessen on Houston Street, on the lower east side, and survived the hectic ordering process even without a line outside.

Even though I escaped the crush of people at the lunch rush, and interloped on a convention party in the back room, half of the sliced, salt marinated beef brisket was tough and fatty. Who needs it. I understand that it is a cheap cut of meat but smoking the same cut of meat for a BBQ can make it more tender and render away the fat.

I should have had the liverwurst sandwich.
