Kanoa Latin Cuisine

It is a brilliantly sunny autumn day and I finally succeeded in biking to Kanoa 417 W. Grace St in RVA to sample their Venezualan and Venezualan-influenced dishes.


I sampled the Arepas, cornmeal flatbread with beef and cheese, which is like a larger, flattish white cornbread muffin sliced open and stuffed eith ingredients taco-like.. They are working on a pulled pork version which would be perfect.

The Tequeno cheese sticks are a Venezualan cheese, like a queso blanco, breaded and fried like like an egg roll. These were very tasty when dipped in the homemade salsa picante, containing medium hot peppers and garlic, possibly onions and other secret ingredients.

I tried the Presidente cerveza from the Dominican Republic and the Daura lager from Spain, both of which were tasty lighter beers.
