Billy Bread, RVA

Suffering from Euro food withdrawal, Saturday we visited Wegman’s, the new Big Box food retailer in town, to see huge amounts of food with no real improved quality. Try Byerly’s or Lund’s or even Kowalski’s Market in the Twin Cities for higher quality. I finally decided to taste Richmond local Billy Bread along with some US-made Serrano ham.

The bread was great with a crispy crust, nice crumb and no added sugar. Just wheat, spelt, rye, water and sea salt. Perfect. The Serrano ham was pretty tasty but probably not aged sufficiently, was not transparent, showed streaks of fat from slicing and was sliced twice as thick as in Spain.
