Empanadas washed down with Cynar & grapefruit juice

I made the mistake of not drinking bottled water four days ago in Buenos Aires and only today decided to go beyond yogurt, white bread and water. I guess the cocktail list captured my attention with Cynar mixed with grapefruit juice. I had originally sampled Cynar, the very bitter artichoke liquor, in Cologne when a colleague brought a bottle back from Italy. Surprisingly the grapefruit juice seemed to slightly sweeten the Cynar. Not as strong or intense as the Di Pompelmo I had in NYC but the Cynar/grapefruit juice mix was very refreshing after a day’s walk.

The three empenadas of beef, ham and cheese and caprese were pretty ho-hum at La Terrazza, Chile 356, Buenos Aires…
