Peppers, turmeric and ginger update

The pepper, turmeric and ginger plants are looking pretty good at this stage of 2024. The ginger and turmeric were started March third and the plants look better after being moved into the shade.

Top, rocoto pepper, plant and flowers (clockwise from upper left) with two turmerics from Ellwood Thompson and one ginger from Tan A Supermarket (left to right) on the Great Wall; bottom left, one year old aji limón and pequin plants; bottom right, “blocky” and “pointy” pimiento plants from Birdhouse Faener’s Market (above Gnomio) , aji amarillo large and aji limó starts.

I succeeded in overwintering aji limó, pequin and rocoto in the shed and waging an intensive water-spray/rain battle against aphids in February and March. All three varieties are flowering prolifically but the rocoto has thus far only yielded one fruit, aborting about fifteen flowers. I also started pimiento, amarillo, limó, pequin and rocoto seeds starting February 14, replanting March 8. So slow growing. I am still hoping for an imoroved pepper yield this year for hot sauce production.
